Sobat Lutheran Academy
After two decades of civil war, South Sudan is one of the poorest countries in the world. 80% of the population relies on subsistence agriculture and lives on less than $1 per day. Besides, 70% of the populations are illiterate and a much higher proportion of women are unable to do so. Padang Relief Society (PRS) began its humanitarian work in South Sudan in 2009. PRS works to ensure that disadvantaged children have access to basic education especially girls, who tend to have lower school access and retention rates than boys.
In 2010, PRS established Sobat Lutheran Academy in Nyongrial district in South Sudan. The purpose of Sobat Lutheran Academy is to provide quality education in the context of the Christian faith. Today, Sobat Lutheran Academy has enrollments of 320 students. To lead the school, PRS has employed local teachers to teach the children and provide school management. These teachers are the key ingredient to the future of hundreds of children in South Sudan.
At this time, the school program needs $1,500 per month to pay teacher salaries. It costs $250 to pay the teacher for each month.
We need your help to provide quality education for deprived children in South Sudan. To donate by mail, please download this donation form, make cheque or money order payable to Padang Relief Society and then mail it to:
